1. Choose your installer
The unit is half the job - the install is the other half. Our own background-checked crews measure, set, seal and insulate every opening, and they know the lines we quote inside and out because they install them every week.
2. Select the right products
Compare styles, materials and glass packages side by side until the fit is right for your rooms, your budget and your goals. The product-line comparison below is the place to start.
3. Prepare your home for install
Before install day we walk you through a short checklist - furniture pulled back, treatments down, a clear path to each opening - so install day is watch-it-happen, not scramble.

ECO Window Systems Window Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you have an ECO Window Systems unit with a failed part, we stock and install ECO-compatible hardware across Dallas, with most single-window repairs running $220 – $480 installed depending on the component and series. Our trucks carry the common failure points for the two ECO series we see most in Dallas homes, but this is a window line that rewards exact identification before anyone picks up a tool. Here’s the reality: ECO Window Systems builds a solid, mid-range vinyl and aluminum product, but the hardware, balances, and weatherstripping age differently in our climate than they do in the manufacturer’s test lab. You’ll typically discover the failure as a window that won’t stay up, a crank that spins without moving the sash, a lock that won’t engage, or a draft you can feel with the window fully shut.
Here’s the short version before you dive in: a failed part on an ECO window almost always costs less to replace than the hours you’ll spend fighting it. We write the price down before work starts, and it does not move at the door.
Which ECO Window Systems Models This Applies To
ECO Window Systems is primarily known in the Dallas market for two product lines: the ECO Classic series, a builder-grade vinyl single- and double-hung, and the ECO Pro line, which adds reinforced frames and a heavier balance system. We install and service both. The parts between them are not interchangeable, and this is the most common mistake we see on homeowner repairs in Dallas. A Classic balance won’t carry a Pro sash, and a Pro pivot bar won’t seat in a Classic shoe. If you’ve got a box of replacement parts at home that doesn’t match the series, that box is not going to fix the window.
Find the series name on a white or silver label on the inside of the frame, usually on the jamb above the sash, or on the top edge of the sash itself. It will read either “ECO Classic” or “ECO Pro” followed by a four-digit model number. That model number matters because ECO changed its balance shoe design around 2016. Pre-2016 Classic windows used a 5/8-inch balance channel; post-2016 models moved to a 3/4-inch channel. Same window, same logo, different part. We can identify it in seconds when we see the label or the old part. If the label is gone, we’ll pull the sash and read the pivot bar and spring stamp.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for balances, pivot bars, and locks, we use OEM ECO parts when they’re available. The fit tolerance on ECO hardware is tight enough that the aftermarket equivalents we’ve tested don’t hold up for more than a season or two, especially in a Dallas summer where vinyl frames flex in the heat. For weatherstripping and glazing, a quality aftermarket product matched to the original profile is fine and often cheaper. We’ll tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.
Signs Your ECO Window Systems Window Installation Is Failing
- The sash drops or won’t stay up. This is a failed balance. The spring inside the balance has lost tension or snapped. In Eco Pro models, the pivot bar often breaks at the same time because the balance was carrying the load on a worn shoe.
- The operator crank spins but the sash doesn’t move. This is a stripped operator gear or a broken arm link on a casement version. It’s not a lubrication issue; the internal splines are gone. Replacing the operator is the fix, and it’s a 20-minute swap with the right part.
- The lock won’t engage or feels loose when latched. The keeper bar has worn down or the lock pawl is bent. This is the part Dallas storm season doesn’t tolerate. A window that’s latched but not actually locked lets wind-driven rain find the gap.
- Visible daylight around the sash when closed. The weatherstripping has compressed past recovery, or the sash has come out of square from a broken balance. The fix is new weatherstripping cut to the correct profile, and a balance check while we’re in there.
- Condensation between the panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed. This is not repairable. The glass gets replaced as a unit, and in Dallas, the seal fails faster when the unit faces west and takes direct afternoon sun.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, we write up most ECO Window Systems part replacements like this, installed, including the part and the labor:
- Balance replacement (per sash): $120 – $190. This includes the balance, pivot bar, and shoe if the shoe is worn.
- Casement operator replacement: $140 – $220. Includes the operator and link arm, no change orders if it’s a standard ECO Pro or Classic arm.
- Lock or keeper replacement: $85 – $140. We match the finish on the existing hardware.
- Weatherstripping replacement (full window): $90 – $160. Cut to the original profile, not a roll of stick-on foam.
- IGU replacement (thermal glass unit): $260 – $480 depending on size and whether it’s double- or triple-pane. Classic double-pane is on the low end; Pro triple-pane sits at the top.
The range comes from two things: the series (Pro parts run 15-to-20 percent more) and the access. A window on the first floor of a Parker Lane ranch is a quicker job than a third-floor unit on a Swiss Avenue townhouse. We’ll give you one written price that covers the part, the labor, and the cleanup. The work is covered in writing for 365 days through our Done Right Promise; if the same part fails within the year, we return and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the straight answer. For balances, there are two real hazards that most homeowners don’t see until they’re bleeding. The balance spring in an ECO sash is under constant tension, and if you release it without taking the weight off the sash, the shoe can fire out of the channel. We get calls from homeowners every year who’ve broken a window or cut a hand trying to save a service call.
We won’t give you a step-by-step on balance or sash replacement for that reason. Treat the window hardware like you’d treat a garage spring: respect the tension and let someone who does this daily handle the swap. What you can safely do is confirm the series label and model number, note whether the sash drops on one side or both, and have that ready when you call. We’ll match the part from your model number before we even schedule the truck. The actual replacement, on most single-window jobs, is done in under an hour once we’re on site.
Elliot Vance has been repairing ECO and six other manufacturer lines across Dallas-Fort Worth since before the Classic-to-Pro series changeover, and his rule applies here: Measure it right the first time, and the rest of the job takes care of itself. We measure twice, match the part once, and put the price on paper before the first screw comes out.
FAQs
In the Dallas climate, ECO balances typically carry the sash for 12 to 18 years before the spring loses tension; weatherstripping lasts 8 to 12 years on a west-facing wall. Triple-digit heat plus UV exposure shortens the lifespan about 30 percent compared to cooler climates. If your home was built before 2008 and the windows are original, you’re on borrowed time. Call (325) 309-2639 and we’ll match the part and give you a written price before any work starts.
Stripped operators, bent lock pawls, and snapped pivot bars cannot be repaired; the part is replaced. A sagging balance can sometimes be re-tensioned, but in our experience the fix lasts six months to a year before the spring relaxes again. We’ll tell you the repair option exists, but we won’t sell you a repair we know is temporary.
Most single-part replacements on ECO windows take 45 minutes to an hour on site, plus the time we spend at the unit matching the part before we touch anything. Glass unit replacement runs longer, usually two hours, because the sash comes out, the old unit is cut free, and the new unit is set and sealed. We’ll give you the time estimate with your written price.
Yes. Our Dallas trucks carry ECO Classic and Pro balances, pivot bars, shoes, lock mechanisms, and standard weatherstripping profiles. Unusual glass units and uncommon sizes are ordered to spec and installed within the week. If the part we need isn’t on the truck, we don’t guess; we come back when the right one is in hand.
We’re an independent installer and repair provider in Dallas, not a factory arm of ECO Window Systems. We carry ECO parts as one of eight manufacturer lines we stock, alongside PGT, CGI, CWS, and others. We match the part to the window, not the window to whatever part is sitting in the back of the van.
